Tax relief – to the point.
Tax Advisors for TikTok Creators
LIVE gifts, diamonds, the Creator Program, PR hauls: on TikTok, income arises in forms that have no dedicated box on the tax form, and yet they are taxable all the same. We translate your TikTok earnings into clean figures: gifts and payouts recorded correctly, barter deals documented at their value, the platform's foreign billing placed on the right VAT (Umsatzsteuer) track, and a system that grows along with your account.
How you earn on TikTok, and what it becomes for tax purposes
- LIVE gifts and diamonds: payment for your streams, business income (Betriebseinnahme) once credited, and regularly a taxable consideration for VAT (Umsatzsteuer) as well.
- Creator Program and advertising shares: foreign remuneration, invoiced net under Reverse Charge, with an EC Sales List (Zusammenfassende Meldung).
- Collaborations and PR hauls: money billed at 19 % to German clients; products as barter at market value.
- Affiliate and TikTok Shop commissions: commercial income, placed on the right VAT track for each contracting party.
Recording the gift economy correctly
What makes TikTok special is the gift economy: viewers buy coins, send gifts, you receive diamonds and, later, money. For tax purposes, what counts is not the platform currency but your inflow. The decisive figure is the amount credited to you according to your statement. That is where business income begins, and that is where the VAT (Umsatzsteuer) review starts too, because interaction within a stream regularly points to a consideration. Also important: the platform settles by credit note (Gutschrift); who your contracting party is and whether the chain of supply applies is set out in precisely that document. We read it before we post the entries, not the other way around.
Frequently asked questions
As a rule, yes: anyone who receives gifts during a stream receives them for their creator work, the later payout of the diamonds is business income, and for VAT (Umsatzsteuer) purposes the highlighting and interaction within the stream point to a consideration, despite the viewers acting voluntarily. The value is recognised at the point at which it is credited or paid out according to your platform statement. Only a demonstrably private gift with no connection to any service would not be business income; in that case the question of gift tax (Schenkung) arises instead.
These are payments for your content: for income-tax purposes they are business income, and for VAT purposes usually a service supplied to the foreign platform company. The place of supply is then at the recipient, so you do not charge German VAT (Umsatzsteuer), but you do need a VAT ID (USt-IdNr.), Reverse Charge handling and the EC Sales List (Zusammenfassende Meldung). Exactly who your contracting party is appears in your statement, and that is precisely what we check to determine the right track before the first advance VAT return (Voranmeldung) goes out.
No, as soon as a video, a link or a story is the consideration in return: the product is then income at its usual market value at the moment you receive it, and for VAT purposes a barter-like transaction. Demonstrable returns and purely business use are treated differently; so is unsolicited merchandise sent with no obligation to post. That is why every haul belongs in a short entry in the barter log: what, from whom, what value, what agreement.
From the start of a sustained activity aimed at generating income, not only once you reach a certain follower count: the activity must be notified within one month and the electronic tax registration questionnaire (Fragebogen zur steuerlichen Erfassung) submitted, a form that since 16.07.2026 also expressly asks for your account name and platform. If years of undeclared income have already built up, we first quietly sort out the subsequent declaration (Nacherklärung); for that we have a dedicated page for creators with open past years.
